Desert

The desert is beautiful and treacherous, peaceful and forgiving, majestic and endless. Some of us have the privilege to explore its complexity at will, while others are forced to cross it as part of their journey towards freedom, a heroic endeavor. Desert Flight is a way to experience the vastness of this sacred landscape and the monumentality of its geology through a lens that contemplates both worlds. Desert Flight is also a non-violent artistic protest against immigration policies that don’t contemplate the suffering that people are forced to endure as they seek to enter the U.S. along the southern border with Mexico. Desert Flight was exhibited at the Neumann Leather building in Hoboken, NJ in November 2023.

Prose

The frames placed on the floor and below the panorama contain words, ideas, illusions and simple thoughts. The prose intends to suggested imaginary conversations and voices of unknown and invisible people as they cross the desert. Typed on an old typewriter the words are an imperfect stream of consciousness heard in a dream-like state.
