Visual Narratives

I am an archaeologist, visual artist, photographer, film-maker and a storyteller. I developed and teach a story-telling workshop titled: The Art of Communicating Science, committed to teaching students diverse methods and skills so they can create compelling visual narratives. The workshop is open to people of all backgrounds and professions and has been given all over the world. Currently I combine my artistic and scientific backgrounds to direct and produce innovative films, documentaries, art exhibits and installations that capture the unique underlying voices and experiences of a people and their story. All projects, regardless of scope, need visual narratives that include all stake-holders and bring forth the synergy of a collective. I believe that the future success of projects will largely depend on how the experience is captured, shared, presented and ultimately told.

The Art of Communicating Science

Is a workshop designed to teach basic elements of story-telling to students from diverse backgrounds and levels of experience in photography and cinematography. It provides ways to tell stories in compelling ways by exploring how drawing, imaging, lighting, and editing can enhance their way of seeing through basic tools and to become aware of the power of the image in their own narrative.

Docu-Series: Portrait

This is an on going project initially funded by a grant from Warner Media’s 150. The docs-series focuses on presenting individuals from around the world who have a unique skill, talent, vision, passion, and love for what they do in life. I film, produce and host the series where I present these amazing individuals and also create their “portrait”.

Portrait Episode 1 - a young archaeologist from Puerto Rico races against the threat of global warming erasing the Taino art carved along the western coast.

Underwater Video

Underwater video story-telling is complex simply because of the watery context in which is filmed, however, I have the experience and skills in both open water and in caverns from projects around the world where I have filmed important stories about how scientist and explorers are finding new data in this new frontier.

Video shot in flooded cave in south west Madagascar. The video captures how the explorers survey and cave and eventually find a treasure-trove of fossils extinct for thousands of years.

Underwater video used to explore the use and capabilities of underwater vehicles. In this example, it was the very first time that a UAV was tested in a cave in the Yucatan Peninsula
